"A Long Branch Song" by Robert Pinsky
Some days in May, little stars
Winked all over the ocean. The blue
Barely changed all morning and afternoon:
The chimes of the bank's bronze clock;
The hoarse voice of Cookie, hawking
The Daily Record for thirty-five years.

I like this poem because it conveys so much detail and imagery and such a sense of the flavor of a place, in an incredibly short and concentrated space of only six lines.
