Sheri Allen favorite "A Long Branch Song"

"A Long Branch Song" by Robert Pinsky

Some days in May, little stars
Winked all over the ocean. The blue
Barely changed all morning and afternoon:

The chimes of the bank's bronze clock;
The hoarse voice of Cookie, hawking
The Daily Record for thirty-five years.

Jerusalem Riff--Sheri Allen's Modeled Poem

No bombs that day, yellow stones
Dozed above sunlit hands. Prayer
Softly milled in all directions--theirs and ours.

A note in The Wall's dark crack,
shorthand for murmuring ifs,
passed panning clicks like a brief salute.
