Sheri Allen favorite "A Long Branch Song"

"A Long Branch Song" by Robert Pinsky

Some days in May, little stars
Winked all over the ocean. The blue
Barely changed all morning and afternoon:

The chimes of the bank's bronze clock;
The hoarse voice of Cookie, hawking
The Daily Record for thirty-five years.

  1. I like this poem because it conveys so much detail and imagery and such a sense of the flavor of a place, in an incredibly short and concentrated space of only six lines.
